IRS "Where's My Refund" Status?
Q. Good morning all!! I filed my taxes with an H&R Block office on Saturday and it was accepted on Monday by the IRS. I am supposed to get a refund by Feb 6th according to H&R Block. However, when I go to the IRS website to check 'Where's My Refund" it keeps stating, "You may not have entered your information correctly. Please verify your personal tax data and try again." I know the information is correct. Can there be something wrong?? I've been doing it for three days now. I just want to know directly they have accepted my return that that I will get a refund and when will I get it. I need that money ASAP. Any information will be very helpful. Thank you!!

A. Mine took a week to update. I actually had to wait until the next Wednesday after I filed. It now tells me to expect refund on 2/7/12. The irs is really slow this year compared to the even slow last year. They are really behind. Don't fret. It will be on there soon. Good luck.

If the IRS WMR states "Your refund is scheduled for DD on...does that mean it's done processing?
Q. Checked WMR this morning and it states "Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on March 4, 2011. If your refund is not credited to your account by March 9, 2011, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. Please wait until March 9, 2011 before you contact us again because we are unable to take any action until then." Does that mean it has been fully processed and there were no problems with my return? I do owe a small amount (under $300.00) that will be off set for child support will that delay the DD date? I have checked with my bank and once a DD is made it is available they do not delay DD. So can I expect my money Friday or Saturday? Looking for answers from people with first hand knowledge. Thanks… [cont.]

A. Tomorrow morning, you could have another update, so you might want to double check again then. Let me ask you, does the refund amount show the same as what you expect, or does it tell you that you are receiving less? When I had an offset in 2008, the WMR site indicated that I was to get my refund on X date, but it reflected the amount AFTER offset. I received my refund, minus offset on WMR promised date.

Instructions for Form 1040-ES for 2008, "What's New" page 2, states "Capital Gain tax rate reduced."
Q. continuing from above, the instructions state, "The 5% capital gain rate is reduced to zero." what does this mean???
Asked by Chuck M - Wed Mar 26 16:15:31 2008 - United States - 2 Answers - Comments

A. In 2007, the portion of long term capital gains (LTCG) which would have been in the 15% or less bracket if it were ordinary income was taxed at 5% instead. For 2008, that portion is taxed at 0%. If your entire income including LTCG is in the 15% or below bracket, your LTCG will not be taxed at all for 2008. Remember, for this calculation, the LTCG is considered as the "last dollars" earned. Your other income takes up the lowest bracket, then LTCG is added on. The net is that low income people pay no LTCG.

Obama states: "We Can't Treat Tax Dollars Like "Monopoly Money"?
Q. The big question is "When will Obama and the Democratically led congress stop spending tax dollars like monopoly money?" Seriously, I almost passed out when I read this.

A. They don't know where the money comes from. They do not understand the more tax we pay, the less jobs, the less jobs the the higher the taxes will go. The higher the taxes the less jobs, until it collapses. They don't understand that more government jobs does not build an economy. More welfare will collapse welfare. Who is going to pay for this healthcare when we are broke.

A. You need to understand how Direct Deposit of refunds works. Here's the short skinny on it from a guy (me) who works in the banking industry: The IRS runs the ACH transmittals for tax refunds on Thursday evenings. How long it takes to make it into your bank account depends entirely upon your bank. If your bank processes them in real time around the clock it will usually be in your account sometime on Friday, often at the beginning of the banking day. If your bank batch processes at end-of-day (many still do) then it will be processed by your bank on Friday evening and will be in your account on Monday morning. If Monday falls on a holiday it will be Tuesday before you see your money. A few small community banks and credit unions are not on… [cont.]

So they sent us everything back...W-2's and all. With a little card that said "Please attatch a copy of your 2007 1040 and refile this return with the state"...so thats exactly what I did. Why didn't the Founding Fathers put the power to tax "the people" in the Original Constitution / Amendments?
Q. An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation. John Marshall, Mc Cullough v. Maryland, 1819 James Madison, in discussing this Act before Congress identified a fundamental principal concerning the power delegated to Congress to lay and collect taxes: "...a national revenue must be obtained; but the system must be such a one, that, while it secures the object of revenue it shall not be oppressive to our constituents." The Act went on to imposed taxes, not on Congress' constituents, but on specific "goods, wares, and merchandise, imported into the United States", and not one dime was raised under the Act by… [cont.]

Why do we let the government tax or forbid things "for our own good"?
Q. Drugs, cigarettes alcohol, and other things are taxed or forbidden "for our own good" why do we allow this? Sure, druggies are losers, but they're going to be losers whether they get the stuff legally or not. We need to take a bit of the power away from them and make them realize we no longer want the "Nanny State" if, indeed, the majority of us ever did.

Why does my paycheck say "Wage No FICA Tax"?
Q. My federal and state taxes have been taken out. But my paycheck explicitly states "wage no fica tax" several times. I do only work part time- 15 hours a week, and only when my college is in session (August-December, January- May) so do I not qualify to have FICA taken out? Or does it come out once a year when I do my taxes (do I then get it back?)?

A. A student working for his or her college doesn't pay FICA. It's not because you're part time. A non-student working there part time DOES have FICA taken out.

A. The state refund is only claimed as income if he itemized that year. If he took the standard deduction, he didn't get a "tax benefit" from the state taxes, and thus it wouldn't have to be added back.
